“Ode to a Chili Pepper”

Hello world! Recently, I have written an ode, a type of poem, for a class assignment. Today, I would like to share it with you. Thanks for reading this and stay tuned!

Oh chili pepper, without you my life would be bland
Growing peacefully, sleeping in the farmland
Bright and colorful, you never cease to enchant
Waiting patiently to be picked, off your lonely plant.

Your smooth fiery coat reflects the burning sun
I pick you off your plant, and it cannot be undone
One look and one’s heart will fill with delight
You are now in my basket, in the pitch black midnight

You sit still, confused as one can be
Wishing you could go back, to when you free
But now you are on the silent, cold wood-woven surface
Patiently waiting to fulfill your grand purpose

I place you next to your old friends on a cold metal tray
And put you outside, for days, and days, and days
Under the blazing, flaming, scorching sun
Until you are dry as the desert and done

I drop you into a bowl, and say adieu
I know it will take a lot of strength to break through you
With you coat so strong like an elephant's skin
I crush, and crush, and crush, you and all your kin

You feel like everything is gone within you
But this step I cannot surpass, so I continue
Until you are almost completely nerveless
Still patiently waiting to fulfill your grand purpose

I then ignore you while I fetch the other ingredients
I put you in the burning pot and you still show obedience
I then stir you and you sizzle and spark
And now you have made a nice soup, fit for a monarch

You think that you have become nothing
But really, you are now more important than anything
You think that you are nothing more than another cooked dish
But now, you are exactly as I wish

Your journey may have come to an end
But your new life is at its beginning, my friend
You have done me, and the world, a great service
Oh chili pepper, you have finally fulfilled your grand purpose
